Isserlis also returns on 1 June for one of the chamber music galas for our th anniversary celebrations. Thursday 11 November This concert will include the original last movement of this work, as well as the one usually played. His unique combination of wit, eloquence and musical experience has for many years been evident not only in his superlative performances, but in his deftly argued essays and his humorous, sometimes irreverent, poems. With this series Alfred Brendel returns before the public, presenting his latest thoughts, in both words and music.

The Academy of Ancient Music, directed from the violin by its Brazilian leader Rodolfo Richter, presents a fascinating mix of South American music from the 18th century contrasted against European works of the same period. Colombian soprano Juanita Lascarro adds to the South American flavour. Sophie Daneman and Jeannette Sorrell bring feminine passion to works inspired by timeless myths — from the fire of the abandoned Armida to the vulnerability of the betrayed Dido.

With the late quartets Beethoven, by now completely deaf, produced his greatest and most philosophical outpourings, turning to the string quartet as a laboratory for his innovative experiments in form, harmony and expression. The Berlin-based Artemis Quartet is currently engaged in a landmark project, performing the cycle across 10 European cities as well as in the USA.

The distinguished Russian pianist Nelly AkopianTamarina makes her own contribution to the Schumann bicentenary. Showcasing the voices of the future, five outstanding young artists perform alongside Sir Thomas Allen and Malcolm Martineau. Soloist, chamber musician and conductor Thomas Zehetmair is one of the most dynamic and versatile violinists around. John Gilhooly invited Zehetmair to have a special residency and this three-concert series opens a window on his range of talents, beginning with a solo Bach recital and continuing next year — when he appears within his quartet, as well as in a duo recital with his wife, violist Ruth Killius , in music spanning from Mozart to Heinz Holliger.

Born in , he studied in Hanover and was a prize-winner at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Her quirky sense of curiosity and fantasy make for an unconventionally spontaneous, even eccentric, style of recital with a faint hint of the burlesque. Leave any preconceptions at home and enjoy a Christmas treat. Music by all three is performed by Lucy Parham, interspersed with extracts from their letters and diaries, read by celebrated actors Joanna David and Martin Jarvis. Brad Mehldau continues his curatorship this year, inviting friends from across the musical spectrum to participate in a variety of duo performances which will explore the limits of improvisatory and experimental contemporary composition, in addition to more conventional work in the jazz tradition.
In the autumn, Brad Mehldau himself forms two all-American partnerships, with versatile mandolin player Chris Thile on 16 September, and acclaimed singer Joe Henry on 2 December, concluding what promises to be an extraordinary and thought-provoking series of collaborations. Born six years ago, the collaboration between Diana Torto and John Taylor has gradually developed to a perfect balance where the blend of both artists and music is beautifully defined. The repertoire is based mainly on their own compositions and other contemporary composers like Kenny Wheeler and Anders Jormin. My captain!
